Periodontal Plastic Surgery / Soft Tissue Grafting

More commonly known as gum grafting, these procedures are used cover exposed root surfaces, improve /thicken tissue around teeth and prevent additional recession and bone loss. When gum tissue that protect your teeth is lost, it can expose sensitive roots, increase the risk of decay (dental caries / cavities) and can cause esthetic concerns. Gum recession may progress if left untreated.

Benefits of treatment include addressing esthetic concerns, root coverage, reduction in gum inflammation and infection, access for better oral hygiene, prevention of tooth loosening or loss, preservation of bone and tissue health which is essential for maintaining long-term dental stability and prevention of further or future gum recession.

Periodontal Plastic Surgery / Soft Tissue Grafting is occasionally coupled with other surgical periodontal therapies and may be recommended for dental implants as well.
